Mount Athos is a mountain and peninsula in northern Greece, southeast end of Chalkidiki, a peninsula in the historical region of Macedonia. The mount forms the southern extremity of the Athos peninsula, one of the three peninsulas which constitute the southern extremity of Halkidiki, of which it constitutes the highest point. It is also a high place of the spirituality of Orthodox Christianity because it is there that the monastic community of Mount Athos is located.
