The tradition of treasure hunt in Donusa

In the last week of July, the “Treasure Hunt” takes place in Donousa, which lasts up to three days. The event is based on a legend of the island: in 1768 the legendary Black Pirate, chased by the Turkish armada, found refuge in Stenoza (the name of Donoussa at the time), where, as it is said, he buried a great treasure.

“Treasure Hunt” is a game of ingenuity and determination for a large number of players. Players, usually 50-100 in total, aim to locate and reap the treasure. Following various riddles, they gradually approach the secret location of the treasure, but at the same time they discover the island, walk its paths, get to know its monuments and landmarks, recognize place names and interact with the inhabitants.

Each time, the course is unique. In addition to puzzles, they must also respond to feats, constructions or compositions that are both unexpected and fun. Thus, they discover perspectives and experience experiences that bring them closer to the place, making their summer vacations unique and unforgettable. After all, the real treasure is this sweet and essential memory.
