Beaches in Agathonisi

Agathonisi is surrounded by pristine and beautiful beaches, most of which are accessible by footpath or by boat and are not organized. Most beaches are sheltered from the wind, have pebbles and some tamarisk trees for natural shade. Its main beaches are Agios Georgios, Ammoudaki Mikro and Megalo, Vathi Pigadi, Gaidourolakos, Palos, Poros, Spilia, Turkolimnionas, Tsagari, Fykio and Hochlia. Other isolated beaches are Kastro, Klefto, Maistros which is one kilometer west of Katholikos with its steep rocks and the archaeological site, Stifi, Turkolimnionas, Fykio and Hochlia.

Agios Georgios beach

Agios Georgios beach is located on the south side of the island, in the settlement of the same name and to the left of the port. It is a small beach, with small pebbles and shallow waters, windless because it is located in a very closed bay, tamarisk trees for natural shade and ideal for families with children. Agios Georgios has a few tavernas, snack bars and accommodation.

Amoudaki beach

Ammoudaki Mikro and Megalo beach is located on the southeast side of Megalo Chorio. It is accessed without a marked path, from where the road from Megalo Chorio ends and heads east for about 300 meters until you reach Mikro Ammoudaki, which means “Little Sandy Beach”. Megalo Ammoudaki or “Great Sandy Beach” is 300 meters further. The beaches are ideal for diving and spearfishing.

Vathi Pigadi beach

Vathi Pigadi beach is located on the southeast side of the island, after the beach of Poros and below the church of Agios Nikolaos. Its name is due to a large well located there. Access is by boat or a path that starts after the beach of Poros, going from Metamorfosi of Sotiros to the picturesque chapel of Agios Nikolaos, crossing a small estate. It is a small beach with pebbles, tamarisks and visible ropes for natural shade, windless because it is located in a very closed bay and is ideal for diving and underwater fishing. Near the chapel of Agios Nikolaos are also the Byzantine buildings known as Tholi.

Gaidouralakos beach

Gaidouralakos beach is located on the south side of the island, next to Spilia. Access is via a difficult path, a few meters to the right of Spilia beach or by boat. It is a small beach with pebbles, windless because it is located in a very closed bay and is ideal for diving and underwater fishing.

Palos beach 

Palos beach is located on the eastern side of the island, before Poros beach. Access is by boat or by a short path from the road that leads from Megalo Chorio to Katholiko, below the army outpost. It is quite a small beach with pebbles, windless because it is located in a very closed bay and is ideal for diving and underwater fishing.

Poros beach

Poros beach is located on the eastern side of the island, near Katholiko and Vathi Pigadi beach. Access is by boat or by a small path located between the chapels of Metamorfosis of Sotiros and Agios Nikolaos. It is a small beach with sand and shallow waters, windless because it is located in a very closed bay and is ideal for diving and underwater fishing. Next to the beach is an old rainwater tank and a large recess or open cave in the rock.

Spilia beach

Spilia beach is located on the south side of the island, next to the beach of Agios Georgios and is considered one of the most beautiful beaches and a good anchorage for sailors. It is accessed by a dirt road and is ideal for an evening walk, as it is illuminated at night by lanterns that charge with solar energy. The name comes from the small cave that exists at one end of it, between the rocks. It is a small beach, with pebbles and some sand, tamarisk trees for natural shade, windless because it is located in a very closed bay and is ideal for diving and underwater fishing.

Tsagari beach

Tsagari beach is located on the south side of the island, next to the port and below the chapel of Agia Irini Chrysovalantou. Access is by boat or by a 300-meter path from Megalo Chorio to the chapels of Agios Ioannis tou Prodromos (Saint John the Baptist) and Agia Irini (Agias Irini) Chrysovalantos. It is a small beach with pebbles, windless because it is located in a very closed bay and is ideal for diving and underwater fishing.
