Gavrio the port of Andros
The importance of Gavrio as the main entrance port of Andros with the rest of Greece, has contributed to its rapid development, both in the commercial and tourist sectors. Gavrio is 32 km from Chora and 45 km from Korthi.
To the north of Gavrio there are many beautiful and picturesque villages such as Amolochos, Ano and Kato Fellos, Sidondas, Makrotantalos, Maps, Varidi and Kalivari among others.
In recent years it has developed into a cosmopolitan tourist resort. In fact, together with the neighboring coastal settlement of Batsi, located 8 km away, they are the areas with the most tourist traffic.
On the south side of the port along the route to Batsi there are many beaches.
The most prominent ones being Agios Petros and Psili Ammos, which have blue flags as a sign of recognition of the purity of their waters.
To the north and northeast of Gavrio and at a relatively short distance there are some of the most beautiful beaches of the island and of the Cyclades in general such as Vitali, Zorgos, Vlychada and many others.
Ano Gavrio
Agia Sophia stands out among the olive trees and the vines. It distinguishes and delimits the area.
Driving towards Ano Gavrio, stop for a while and take a look back. Far away is Gavrio, the port, the plain with crops and greenery.
Continue on one of the many small dirt roads that go up and down the large green ravine and lead to unexpected places of unsurpassed beauty with vines and olive trees.
Between the dense forest made by time and the water of the ravine stand out solid stone houses of another era. Ano Gavrio begins to reveal itself to the visitor. Ano Gavrio emerges like a secret you never thought existed.
