Famous Athenian dramatist of the New Comedy genre who wrote more than 100 comedies. His plays were about human weaknesses and everyday life and usually had as theme love intrigues. Menander was widely praised for his realism, and he was even quoted by the apostle St Paul. Of his best known quotes is "The one the gods love dies young". Few of Menander's works have survived.
