Sphinx

Monster that tormented the travelers to Thebes by asking them a riddle. Anyone who could not answered she killed, until Oedipus answered the riddle, resulting in the Sphinx's suicide. The Sphinx had a woman's head and breasts, a lion's body and a bird's wings.
