Macedonia, is one of the most historical and geographically important regions of Greece, it covers the northern part of the country and consists of many prefectures, which are home to some of the most important cities in Greece.
The landscape of Macedonia is characterized by great diversity. It lies between the Aegean Sea and the Balkans and includes extensive plains such as the Central Macedonian Plain, mountain ranges such as Mount Olympus and Vermio, as well as some of Greece’s largest lakes such as Lake Prespa and Lake Kerkini.
Capital of the region of Macedonia is Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece and the economic and cultural hub of northern Greece. Apart from Thessaloniki, other important cities include Kavala, Veria and Kastoria.
