Livadia the port of Tilos
Livadia is the port of Tilos, on the eastern side, and is the main point of arrival for most visitors. Livadia is a settlement with few inhabitants, which, with the exception of a large building built by the Italians, retains some elements of the local architecture.
The port of Tilos, built on the edge of a bay, with pebbles and crystal clear waters, calmly embraces the coast next to the port.
It is the first place you see when you arrive on the island of Tilos, with the beach of the same name and the most developed tourist settlement of the island. At the top of the mountain mass above the village dominates the Castle of Agriosykia, while the contrast between the sea and the high mountains is wonderful. The houses are spread over a fertile valley, while following the coastal road you will find yourself in the medieval port of Agios Stefanos.
It is worth visiting the ruins of the medieval castle of Agriosykia and the small church of Agios Panteleimon, built on the site of an early Christian basilica.Pass by the chapel of Panagia tis Politissa and the chapel of Agios Nikolaos, with frescoes from the 13th century.
Visit the old settlement of Gera and the small church of Taxiarchis tou Lithos with frescoes from 1580.
You will rest in the taverns, restaurants and cafes of the village. A festival takes place on the eve of August 23rd at the monastery of Panagia tis Politissa, where pilgrims from neighboring Podos also arrive. You will find hotels and rooms or apartments for rent.
If you have a boat, you will dock at Livadia, where there is a fueling station. With a traditional Greek architecture, if we take a walk in the village our attention is drawn to the building of the police station in the harbor which brings memories of the Italian rule of the island from 1912 to 1948. On the surrounding hills we can see the scattered white, square houses, but also the recently built small apartments with a wonderful view of the bay.
