Discover the town of Mykonos

mykonos townThe Town of Mykonos elegantly captures the cosmopolitan character and charm of the Aegean island, offering its visitors an oasis of peace and relaxation.

White cubist houses cluster around the old Mykonos port, spilling bougainvillea, while tiny chapels, too numerous to count, cast their shadows over tiny squares.

It makes strolling around the streets a very pleasant if tricky experience with the maze of alleyways ensuring that visitors are sure to get lost in no time at all.

The main shopping strip is Matoyanni, full of shops, cafes and bars for all tastes, if not all budgets with prices as dazzling as the views.

It’s designer wear here and flicking through Gucci and Prada a ‘must do’ experience for anyone who wants to make a mark in Mykonos.

At the western end of town is the magnificent Church of Paraportiani, a whitewashed stand of four chapels while south-west is the picturesque Little Venice.

Its name is taken from the wealthy Venetian seafarers who built homes here. It’s now home to most stylish bars. Mykonos Town, once considered the Saint-Tropez of Greece, , has lost some of the glitz in recent years although echoes of the glamour are still in evidence.
