The village of Pollonis

pollonia-milosPerched on the north-eastern tip of the island is Pollonia, a picturesque fishing village. Its quaint beauty is surrounded by a stunning cove. Pollonia is the second port of Milos after Adamantas it’s believed to have derived its name from the temple of Apollo found at Pelekouda Lighthouse, situated on its left.

This quaint settlement boasts a stunning sandy beach, plenty of accommodation and places to eat. Taverns, restaurants, and island cafes line the right hand side of town, all culminating in the iconic Church of Aghia Paraskevi. From the pier in front of this impressive landmark you can find local fishing boats coming each morning with their hauls of fish, octopuses and lobsters. Excursion boats for Papafraga’s Cave and Glaronisia also leave from here. Travelling to Pollonia, you’ll encounter the remnants of the old city of Phylakopi and beaches such as Agios Konstantinos, Mytaka, Papafragas and Kapros.

On the left side of Pollonia lies the beguiling Pelekouda peninsula. Its most iconic feature is Agios Nikolas, a beautiful chapel, accompanied by an enchanting folktale. It’s said that those who sit in the chair-shaped rock there will remain devoted to each other for eternity. Hence it’s a must-visit destination!
