The port of Adamantas in Milos
The coastal village of Adamantas in Milos, located in the island’s bay, one of the largest and safest natural bays in the Mediterranean, and is the largest tourist center of Milos. Adamantas is its main port and the first sight you will see as you approach by boat.
Built in the north of the gulf, Adamantas or “Alamando”, as it was called in the past, has been inhabited since 1824. It was built by Cretans who were persecuted refugees from Sfakia, who came to Milos after their failed and bloody revolution against the Turks, while today it has about 1100 inhabitants.
Adamantas is made up of white houses with small courtyards decorated with flowers and narrow quiet streets, which all together make up an image of exquisite Cycladic beauty.
Adamantas in the summer months is full of life. In this village you can combine rest and tranquility with nightlife and entertainment, while at the same time it provides you with everything you need for a comfortable and pleasant vacation: cafes, restaurants, ouzo, pizzerias, grills, steakhouses, bars, clubs, shops, supermarkets, banks, port authority, customs, doctor’s office, pharmacy, dentist’s office, agency of Greek and international press, etc.
The night life of the island is also present here, with bars with a variety of music that raise the rhythms and tempo of entertainment until the early hours of the morning.
To the left of the port you will find the parking lot and then the district of Lagada with the beach of the same name, while to the right of the port stretches the main coastal road that leads to the central square of the village, where you will find the bus stop, as well as the taxis.
On one side of this coastal road there is an extensive paved sidewalk, cafes, restaurants and tourist shops, as well as the municipal Thermal Baths of Lakkos, while on the left side are the relatively new port facilities, which combined with the security offered by the natural harbor, make Adamas suitable for yachting.
From there also start the excursions with boats and sightseeing sailboats to the hard-to-reach beaches of the island and to the surrounding areas of Milos and Kimolos. If you want to swim, Adamantas offers you that too. At a short distance and accessible without means of transport, you can find the beaches of Lagada (500 meters from the center of Adamas) and Papikinos (1km from Adamas).
Finally, Adamanta’s attractions include the Church of the Dormition, the Catholic Church of Agios Nikolaos, the Mining Museum and the Ecclesiastical Museum, which is housed in the thousand-year-old church of the Holy Trinity.
