The town of Plomari Lesvos

plomari-townPlomari is a picturesque town and the second largest of Lesvos. Plomari, located 42 kilometers southwest of Mytilene, was built in 1842 and has good landscaping, traditional mansions but also nice modern buildings, parks and lots of greenery.

The entire region was called Flumaria or Plumaria from the old days. The name probably comes from the Latin “Plumarius”, i.e. decorator or the Genoese “Plumare”, i.e. river, or the plums milky plants of the area.

Its inhabitants are mainly engaged in olive cultivation and the production of the famous Plomari ouzo. About 4 kilometers before you reach Plomari, you will come across the imposing facilities of the famous Plomari Ouzo Isidoros Arvanitou, where you will learn the legend of the impressive course of a historic Plomari distillery.
