Merichas the port of Kythnos
Merichas the port of Kythnos is located in the west of the island of Kythnos in a natural and windless picturesque bay with clear waters suitable for fishing and swimming. All ferry routes from the port of Piraeus or the port of Lavrio with destination Kythnos arrive here.
It is a seaside settlement of fishermen, which developed into the port of the island. Merichas has a boat marina for tourist boats, sailboats, inflatables, offering them full supply (water, fuel).
In Merichas is the departure point of the buses (Chora-Loutra & Dryopida-Canala), the taxi rank, the car and motorbike rental offices and the shipping agencies. In addition, the boats that take tours of the island’s beaches and the boats that can take you by sea to the beautiful beach of Kolona depart from Merichas.
Both of the island’s main road routes start from Mericha. One road leads to Chora and then to Loutra and the other to Dryopida and then to Panagia Kanala or the southern side of the island, Agios Dimitris. Merichas, although it belongs administratively to the local community of Dryopida, is a separate settlement and the third largest in terms of population after Chora and Dryopida. Due to its position (Kythnos port) it has intense tourist traffic during the summer season.
In Merichas you will find all the essentials that will make your stay on the island pleasant. It has a pharmacy, (there is another in Chora) a supermarket, travel agencies, bank ATMs, gas stations, car and motorcycle rental offices, souvenir shops, while there is no shortage of small shops to meet the needs of the local residents of the island as well as visitors. The port station of Kythnos is also housed here. Right next to the beach of Merichas is another beautiful beach of the island of Martinakia.
