Benitses Corfu travel guide
Benitses in Corfu was the first Greek resort to cash in on the package holiday boom of the 1960’s and quickly earned a reputation for its boozy nightlife and garish glitter.
Things are different today as fun loving youngsters decamped to Kavos and then flew further afield to booze holiday resorts like Ayia Napa and Ios.
These days, locals are aiming at the more upmarket holidaymakers and, although still lively, the bargain holiday Brits on bar crawl booze-ups are much more rare.
Benitses has worked hard to reinvent itself and it is now aimed squarely at the family holiday market. The report is seven kilometres from Corfu Town, strung along the east coast for about a kilometre.
The northern end of Benitses has the main beach and the livelier bars and restaurants while the south remains more sedate and peaceful.
The beach at Benitses is not great, just a long stretch of pebble and sunbeds. But there are plenty of watersports and boats excursions including trips to the nearby Mouse Island.
Benitses has a huge shell museum, complete with stuffed fish and some very dangerous looking shark jaws. There are also several walking trails into the nearby hill for walkers and mountain bikers.
Benitses has been a popular holiday resort for many years and so has a very wide range of hotels and apartments. It is well placed too, with regular buses to Corfu Town and Moriatika to the south.
