Travel guide to Agios Ioannis beach resort in Corfu

agios-ioannis-corfuThe beach at Agios Ioannis may be small and mostly composed of shingle and pebble but this is still a very attractive Corfu holiday resort.

Agios Ioannis beach resort is located about 18 kilometres to the south of the island capital of Corfu Town and connected to it by a good road.

This is an increasingly popular resort and lies on the east coast of Corfu island midway between the heavyweight Corfu holiday resorts of Messonghi and Benitses.

Despite its relative isolation from the mainstream holiday resorts, developers have moved in in force to cash in on its growing popularity and there are plenty of of tourist holiday amenities to be found here.

There is a good selection of shops and cafes and quite a wide range of hotels on offer, most of them set back from the beach and flanking the main road that hugs the coastline.

The shingle beach at Agios Ioannis is long and composed of fine pebbles and dark, gritty sand. It ends at a small quayside to the south. On the main beach can be found a wide range of watersports. Several parts of the beach have been taken over by big hotels.

There is a regular bus service to Moratika and Benitses. This beach resort should not to be confused with the Agios Ioannis village located about 10 kilometres west, inland from Corfu Town and home to Corfu’s Aqualand waterpark – a theme park with water slides, swimming pools, tube rides and so on.
