The village of Kalamoti in Chios

kalamoti-chiosKalamoti is a village of Chios with a strong medieval color thanks to the narrow streets, the paved square with the cafes in the middle of the village, the stone arches and the gates of the old village wall. Kalamoti  located 28 kilometers south of Chora.

The village preserves several elements from the form of medieval villages, such as the square shape with the perimeter fortification, the arches above the streets, the small alleys, while the dialect of the inhabitants is characteristic, which preserves archaic and Homeric elements. The medieval part of the village has been classified as a historical monument.

It is worth visiting the church of Panagia Agrelopoussaina, with frescoes from the 14th century, and the ruins of the medieval castle in the village of Armolia, 3 kilometers northwest of Kalamoti. Pass by Panagia tou Agrelopou, a church with interesting frescoes, dating back to the 14th century, and the total of 32 chapels in the area that are of special interest.

For swimming you will go to Komi, which is the port of the village. Festivals with traditional dances and feasting take place on July 7, the feast of Agia Kyriaki, and on July 26, the feast of Agia Paraskevi.
