Chios Byzantine Museum

The Byzantine Museum of Chios, officially known as the “Yiannis & Eleni Mantzavinou” Byzantine Museum of Chios, is located in the town of Chios, in the Northeast Aegean of Greece. The museum was inaugurated in 1980 and is housed in the old Ottoman hammam in the center of the city, a building dating from the 19th century.

The museum’s permanent collection includes works of art and antiquities covering a wide period of time, from Roman times to the Late Byzantine period and the period of Genoese and Ottoman rule on the island. Its exhibitions include valuable Byzantine and post-Byzantine ecclesiastical icons, reliquaries, ceramics, coins and other objects that reflect the historical and cultural heritage of Chios.
