What to do in the village of Tholaria

Tholaria-AmorgosTholaria are located north of the island at an altitude of 220 meters with a view of the entire area of Aegiali. The settlement has traditional Cycladic architecture, with white houses, cobbled streets, arches and hospitable residents, who are mainly engaged in agriculture and traditional professions.

The name comes from the vaulted tombs of the same name from the Roman period. The church of the village is that of Agioi Anargyri, with the spectacular blue dome and the double imposing bell towers, which celebrates July 1st and becomes a big festival. Sights of the settlement are the citadel of the ancient city of Aegiali, located on Vigla hill.

A kouros trunk from the archaic era was discovered in the area. The settlement has several accommodations for accommodation, shops, many cafes and taverns where they serve food from local products and a treat of local racomelo or ouzo.

Tholaria is known to have the best fava beans in Greece because the soil is full of minerals and many locals still do the whole process by hand. Nearby beaches are Mikri Vlyhada, Levrossos, Hochlakas and Psili Ammos. There are beautiful hiking trails full of herbs and flowers.
