The village of Vagia in Aegina
Vagia is a small village in the northernmost part of the island, 12 km from the port of Aegina, built in a green setting and with a church in the center of the square where it takes you back in time.
Vagia i is one of the favorite areas of the island’s excursionists, as in addition to the picturesque character it maintains, it has a wonderful, gently shaped coastline.
Vaia has one of the most beautiful sandy beaches of the island, while for the more alternative, the wonderful bay of Tourlos is just a stone’s throw away, a point where it was chosen by the Germans as the most strategic point in the area during the Second World War.
It has few taverns with very tasty food, while if you feel like going out at night, the town of Aegina, Souvala and Agia Marina are only a few kilometers away.
Its inhabitants are mainly engaged in fishing, which gives a special character to the area, as well as the “fragrance” of the traditional region of Aegina.
The beach of Vagia, centered on the small port that exists there, can be divided into two parts: The first is located towards Souvala, with the intermediate village of “Agios” and the second which is located towards the side of Nisida and Tourlos naval base.
The first side starts with a sandy beach, about 300 – 400 meters long, where there are two taverns that can meet your every need for food, while they also have sunbeds with umbrellas. The beach of Vagia at this point has a gentle configuration and offers for leisurely swimming and family moments of relaxation and play.
Then the formation gradually changes, and while the seabed remains gentle, the texture of the coast changes to mildly rocky, forming wonderful, truly dreamlike shores. The waters in all cases are wonderful and especially on days when there is a light southerly wind they are famous.
You will reach Vagia either through Souvala and “Agion”, or through the area of Mesagros by going down from Agia Marina. In both cases you will not face any problem.
