Hyacinthus

("hyacinth")

A beautiful young man from Sparta that Apollo loved. By accident Apollo killed him while teaching Hyacinthus discus-throwing, and turned the youngster's blood into a flower. One version tells us how it was the wind-god Zephyrus who caused the discus to hit the young man by blowing the wind in his direction, since he too was in love with Hyacintus and jealous of Apollo.
