Beaches in Paros

Paros has numerous golden sand beaches that stretch all around the island. The winds are ideal for wind surfing and some of its beaches are as good, or better, than some of the most popular of the neighbouring islands of Mykonos and Naxos. Most of the beaches have access by buses from Naoussa and Parikia whereas others can be reached by car or by scooter. Most of the beaches are located at the east part of Paros, but in the west coast you will also find some really nice beaches. Most of the beaches of Paros have been awarded with the Blue Flag.

golden beachOne of the most popular and world known beaches of Paros is the Golden beach or Chrysi Akti as it is called in Greek. The coastal area of Golden beach is in fact made up of several small sandy beaches, each one fringed with shady tamarisk trees. The beaches are all well organised, with sun beds, umbrellas, restaurants, bars and cafes. Also here are several centres for windsurfing, kite boarding and scuba diving where equipment can be hired and lessons taken. In the north part of that sandy coast towards Piso livadi is the Pounda beach club, something equivalent with the Paradise beach of Mykonos, with beach parties and several events It is a popular meeting point for young holiday makers. There is a good choice of holiday accommodation in the surrounding areas.

kolymbithres beachKolymbithres beach The beach consists of rocky outcrops and small fine sandy coves dotted amongst the rocks. the smooth white rocks form interesting shapes on their underside where the elements have eroded the rock over thousands of years. In many ways the beach is reminiscent of a Salvador Dali landscape with rocks that seem to have a fluid plasticity that has been petrified into a static shape hundreds of thousands of years ago. Some of the shapes of the rocks rise up like strange sculptures of mythical creatures and people. The sandy coves, however, are quite small and during high season the beach can become uncomfortably crowded. There are sun beds, umbrellas and a tavern at the back of the beach. Near to Kolymbithres you will find the Monastiri beach in a wonderful cove at Agios Ioannis bay. The beach is sandy and the surrounding rock formations are like those in Kolymbithres. The sea is not deep, the beach is organized with umbrellas and sun beds. Near to the beach there are bars and restaurants where you can enjoy a drink or have lunch. This beach is recommended for families with children as it is not overcrowded and the waters are not deep.

santa maria beachNear to Naoussa you will find the Santa Maria beach a long sandy beach that is not organised like the nearby beach of Ambelas. Santa Maria is ideal for those that would like quiet beaches. Along the road that goes to the eastern coastal villages near to Marmara, if you turn left you will find the beach of Molos another sandy beach ideal for families. Not far from Marmara is located the village of Piso Livadi with a small but wonderful sandy beach. Just a few minutes walk from Piso livadi is the beach of Logaras which is well organised and very popular among Greeks. Continuing from Logaras the road approaches the Golden beach a few km to the south and next to the small beach of Drios.

alyki beachTuring towards the west coast of Paros we will found the beach of Faragas with sun beds, umbrellas and a beach bar. Nearby and before the Airport is the wonderful sandy beach of Alyki, right opposite Antiparos.
Alyki beach is popular among the locals and Greek tourists, ideal for families with children with shallow crystal clear water and many facilities. The area has many lodgings, restaurants and fish taverns. Pounda lies about 8 km southwest of Parikia and is the perfect place for windsurfing or kite boarding as the sea is in the channel between Paros and Antiparos. Here you can catch the little boat to Antiparos which leaves every 30 minutes.

livadia beachNear to Parikia are some wonderful beaches with the most popular being Livadia and Krios. Due to the fact that these 2 beaches are a few minutes walk from the town of Parikia where most of the hotels are located it can become quite crowded during the high season.  Both of these beaches are well organised with umbrellas sun beds and all kind of shops, cafes and bars. There are many trees that offer thick shadow and you can find enough parking places if you have a car. On the south part of Parikia there are some really nice smaller beaches like the beach of Souvlia (Delfini beach) with a nice snack bar and next to it the beach of Parasporos. See our collection with Paros beach pictures.
