Paxi is a cluster of small islands in the Ionian Sea , off the coast of Epirus .
They belong to the prefecture of Corfu and are a particular province , with base
the island of Paxos or Gaius .
The Nortwest island which is the largest is the Paxos and east is Antipaxi . Paxos is a very picturesque island , with many caves and sulfur springs .
Paxos produces the best oil of the Ionian Islands and wonderful wine. The larger villages are: Gaius , the capital of the province , with 1,089 inhabitants , Magazia ( 451 inhabitants) , Lakka , with 427 inhabitants and Longos . The entire province has a population of 2,253 inhabitants
