Andros is an island of Greece the second largest island of the Cyclades,
lying between Tinos and Evia , with capital Chora has 1598 inhabitants.
The terrain is mountainous in the center and plain in the coast . The highest mountains are Petalo ( 994 m ) , Kouvara ( 975 m ) , Gerakones ( 760 m ) , Rachi ( 950 m) and Agioi Saranda ( 714 m ) . On the coast there are many bays and inlets, there is only one physical port, Gavrion , located in the northwestern part of the island. In the south there is the Strait of Tinos and cape Steno . The island's economy is based on agricultural products , shipping and tourism . There are large areas cultivated with lemon trees, olives , mulberries , grapes , figs , citrus , potatoes , cereals , etc. But main economic source is shipping .
