It was he who outsmarted Odysseus when the latter tried to play the fool in
order to avoid joining the Trojan War.
For this reason, Odysseus hated Palamedes, and took his revenge in Troy. By forging a letter from the Trojan king Priam and hiding a treasure under Palamedes' tent, he got him charged and executed for treason.
In Plato'sApology Socrates mentions Palamedes as one of the unjustly convicted.
Palamedes was credited with having invented writing, the dice and a board game amongst other things.
