Greek islands off the beaten track

Serifos, although not on the top Greek islands, know that it is perhaps one of the most representative of the Aegean, but without the roar of the famous Greek cosmopolitan islands. It offers the perfect combination, getting there its easy, only just 2 hours by ferry from Piraeus, your arrival on this wonderful island becomes even easier. You can swim everywhere in Serifos! There are beaches for every style and every age!
There are deserted beaches such as Kentarchos, which has sand and pebbles, and which to reach you have to walk 20 minutes through a relatively inaccessible path, but crossing a green valley with waterfalls that will surely compensate you, along with the first dive in the crystal clear waters. In the same category is Lia, who requires you to drive on a dirt road, walk about 20 minutes and then enjoy a completely secluded beach, with sand and pebbles and with a bonus view of the island of Vu.

Do not to miss at least one swim in one of the largest beaches on the island, Ganema. It is easily accessible by car and the natural shade offered by the tamarisk trees will definitely keep you there until sunset.
One of the most famous beaches of the island is that of Koutalas, in the homonymous bay. It is famous for the wild contrast it creates with the ruins of the miners’ houses, for the cool waters, the abundant shade offered generously by the trees, but also the possibility to choose sand or pebbles, depending on the side of the bay you choose , on the left side it has pebbles and as you move to the right it becomes sand.
But, there are also the cosmopolitan and organised beaches that have sand and are located on the port, such as Avlomonas. Or those that combine their beauty with some small taverns such as Livadakia, Platis Gialos, Mega Livadi, Psili Ammos and Sykamia.
As you can understand, Serifos is full of options for unique summer holidays.

Many say that Kimolos is amazing, as soon as you step your foot out of the boat you will feel this magical air of the Cyclades flooding your heart. Psathi, the port of Kimolos, like Kimolos itself, are small, but miraculous with fantastic waters.
We will recommend Prassa. White sandy beach, emerald waters, tamarisk trees, sunbeds and umbrellas for anyone who wants peace. There are thermal baths at the entrance of the settlement, while under the church of Ai Giorgis there are sea caves where the most likeable seal monachus-monachus finds refuge.
Other beaches that are worth spotting are Ellinika, where you will find the ancient city of the island immersed, ideal for snorkelling.

Mavrospilia which is ideal as the sunset there is dreamy, but also Giupa with the picturesque caves ,Sirmata, where fishermen put their boats in the winter. Also, do not forget to pay a visit to the wonderful waters of Bonatsa. Which has golden sand, organised section and space to put your own umbrella!
Polyaigos, the largest uninhabited island in the Aegean, which in addition to this peculiarity, has unique beaches worth visiting. You go by boat or inflatable, Pano and Kato Mersini, Panagia Avlaki and Ammoura, are beaches that you should definitely love to swim.
Kimolos is an island that is not stingy on the beaches, we suggest you discover them all with one visit this year!

One of the most popular island destinations, which in recent years has seen tourism increase, is the picturesque Sifnos. Beautiful, with its white houses and its picturesque villages, Kamares, the port, with its wonderful beach with tamarisk trees and shallow water!
Apart from Platys Gialos beach, perhaps the most famous and busiest beach on the island, it is worth taking a dip in the wildest side of the area, in the bay of Lazaros. There awaits you a deck with sunbeds and moments of relaxation. If you want something that combines isolation with culture, then climb the mountain and descend to the amazing gulf of Vathi. As soon as you see it from above, you will understand why it is a favourite base for yachts. Crystal clear waters that gradually deepen, sandy beach, traditional taverns on the beach, and cicadas to remind you that you are where you want!

However, it is not possible to go to Sifnos and not visit Chrysopigi. Both the church with its magnificent balcony in the Aegean, as well as the beach with its tamarisk trees, the tavern Mastelo and the unobstructed view of the blue, will compensate for the fame of Chrysopigi. Another beach, which to be precise are three small coves (Faros, Fasolou, Glyfo) that are separated by a few meters, is Faros, located in the homonymous bay and settlement. It is located on the southeast side of the island and is definitely the destination for a quiet swim. It has golden sand and shallow, calm waters. It has a family character and a fairly calm rhythm in relation to the noisiest beaches of the island, such as Kamares and Platys Gialos.

At the northernmost point of the island you will find the beach of Heronissos. You will go there because you want something relaxed, maybe after an intense night in the alleys of Apollonia. The waters are shallow, cool, crystal clear and lace decorated with golden sand. While the taverns in the bay of the homonymous settlement, will complete the image of your vacation. The beaches of Sifnos, however, Vroulidia, Spilies, Tsopos, Poulati, Seralia, Saures, perhaps lesser known, but that will surely compensate you.

Once upon a time, Koufonisia was isolated, they did not have tourism and for that they were an ideal destination off the beaten path. Today, Koufonisia has developed into a distinctive destination, which of course has tourism, but without sinking the island. Some say that it is not for many days. If you are looking for emerald beaches, which in color are reminiscent of Ionian waters, with the wild beauty of the Aegean and without the noisy reality of the famous Cycladic islands, then get ready for Koufonisia. These are Ano and Kato Koufonisi, which are separated by a sea strip 200 meters wide. Creeks, rocks, sandy areas and turquoise waters compose the beaches of the island.

Ammos is the main beach of the island, located in the village, where the boat will leave you and your vacation will begin. It is not organised, it has sand and in terms of water, even though it is in the port, it is crystal clear! But most people choose Pori as their favourite beach and not unjustly so! We do not promise you isolation, as it is famous for its beauty, its golden sand and its waters that as soon as you swim in you will feel that you are immersed in a photo from an exotic destination! It is eerie wonderful and despite the people it may have, Pori is so big that you will definitely find somewhere to spread your towel! But its charm does not end on its sandy beach, nor in its waters. It has to offer you, at a very close distance, the wild beauty of the Xylompati and the Devil’s Eye caves, but also the special, hidden rock beach Gala.

Because Ano Koufonisi, located all the hotels of the island as well as the port, is quite small, you can do the walking trips starting from the village and heading towards Pori, you will find the beaches of Chondros Kavos, Harokopou, Fanos, Platia Pounta that will surely relax and cool you up! Continue to the east of the island and discover a pool in the rocky seaside, A natural pool, which has been created over the years by the sea on the rocks and which usually the visitors do not fail to take a dip.

When you are in Koufonisia, do not stay only in what the admittedly wonderful Ano Koufonissi offers you! Take some time off from the rest of your vacation and visit the neighbouring islands of Keros, with the great archeological site and Kato Koufonisi. Especially, Kato Koufonissi with the chain caves, the wild beauty, the wonderful coves and the unique beaches will steal your heart. The beaches of Lakoi, Detis, Nero, Pezoulia and of course the beach of Kastelli, which is located at the nearest point between Ano and Kato Koufonisi.
