According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.in2greece.com\/english\/historymyth\/history\/ancient\/pausanias.htm\">Pausanias<\/a>, Perseus named the city Mycenae either because the &#8220;Mykis&#8221; of his sword \u03b9\u03c4 fell there (Mykis was the object that frames the handle of the sword), or because under the root of the fungus (Mykitas), which he uprooted to quench his thirst and gushed a spring with plenty of water (the Perseus spring).<\/p>\n\n\n<script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3925610146743912\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3925610146743912\" data-ad-slot=\"6140008844\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>\n\n\n<p>Mycenae was the most important prehistoric city in Greece and one of the greatest prehistoric civilizations. The acropolis of Mycenae is built on the slopes of a triangular hill . The wall that surrounds it, has two gates, the main one, known as the Lions&#8217; Gate and a second one on the north side. Inside the Acropolis are the most important buildings such as the building of Sitovolon or Sitapothiki (barn). the Tomb circle A which includes 6 royal tombs, the Mycenaean palace. the underground fountain and various other buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Outside the citadel are Mycenaean dwellings, the Tomb circle B with nine vaulted tombs of the Atreides, among which are the tomb of Aegisthus, the tomb of the Lions, the tomb of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.in2greece.com\/english\/historymyth\/mythology\/names\/clytemnestra.htm\">Clytemnestra<\/a>, and the treasure of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.in2greece.com\/english\/historymyth\/mythology\/names\/atreus.htm\">Atreus <\/a>or the tomb of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.in2greece.com\/english\/historymyth\/mythology\/names\/agamemnon.htm\">Agamemnon<\/a>, 36m long and 6 m wide, that was built in 1250 BC.
