It was the angel Gabriel who announced to the Virgin Mary that she would have Jesus. He is described both in the Old Testament (Book of Daniel 8:16, 9:21) as well as in the New (Luke1:11-19, 26-38).
In art he is usually depicted as a young male angel who is holding a scroll in a kneeling position.
