Perissa Santorini
It is lapped by the clear, blue Aegean sea and fringed with tamarisk trees. Although the water is crystal clear it shelves very quickly to a considerable depth and consequently is also refreshingly cold, even in the hot summer months. There are waves and sometimes these can get a bit rough, creating a sandbank that you sink into to get into the water. The eastern side of the beach is less rocky than the western side. It is a very popular beach and consequently is very well set up for holidaymakers and holds an eco-friendly Blue Flag Award. It also is very sheltered from the northern summer winds, lying as it does in the protective foothills of Mt. Profitis Ilias and Mt. Mesa Vouno. Both Perissa beach and Perivolos beach are very well organised with sun beds, umbrellas on the beach and tavernas, restaurants, cafes and bars along the seafront. Perivolos has a particularly good nightlife with numerous excellent music and dance clubs to choose from. Along the 7km stretch of beach you will also find a variety of water sports available such as windsurfing, diving and water skiing as well as beach volleyball courts. The whole area has a plethora of accommodation facilities, ranging from 5 star hotels to camp sites. Compared to Kamira beach, Perissa beach is more relaxed and affordable . For walkers, Perissa is the starting point for hiking to the ancient ruined settlement of Thira, atop Mt. Mesa Vouna (300m), Access to the hiking path is a few kilometres west of the beach and the hike takes approximately one hour from Perissa.
