Parikia Paros
Parikia is the Capital and main port of of Paros here are
most of the interesting sights of the island and the centre of
nightlife and shopping. In Parikia there are also many hotels,
rooms, studios and self catering accommodation.
The town is built on the same location of the ancient city of
Parikia that was inhabited since ancient times until today, and
that is the reason that the town has so many ancient ruins and
temples that parts of them used to build later constructions
like the fortress of Marcos Sanudos (the frankish castle) the
Ekatontapyliani church and others. The town extends to the edge
of the frankish hill on top of which stands the monastery of
Agioi Anargyroi. In recent years the town had an enormous growth
(like most of the touristy Greek islands) . The positive factor
is that the new buildings and constructions keep the Cycladic
architecture and the local colour.
The
old town is dominated by the central market street with all
kinds of shops. Small and narrow stone paved streets, arcades
and benches with white washed cycladic houses .
The live part of the town though is on the other side of the old
market street mainly along the water sea front left and right of
the port and around the square of Manto Mavrogenous.
There are many beaches nearby and many of the holiday makers
stay in Parikia. There are all kind of shops, many restaurants
,cafes, music bars and clubs and a cinema. From Parikia you can
visit all villages and sights of Paros with the public buses (Paros
KTEL)
