Kiteboarding is a combination of windsurfing, wakeboarding,
surfing, skiing and paragliding all rolled into one. It is one
of the extreme sports of the 21st century and is fast growing in
popularity. Although still a relatively young sport, recent
innovations in kite design and harness systems plus the
professionalization of instruction has ensured that the safety
of kiteboarding has increased considerably.
Many of the clubs which offer windsurfing along this eastern
coast of Paros also offer kiteboarding instruction and equipment
to rent or buy.
Paroskite Kiteboarding Centre: Kiteboard and Windsurfing Centre
is located around 26km from Parikia, on the western side of the
island at Pounda Beach, close to the little harbour for the
boats to Antiparos. Don’t confuse this area with the huge
holiday club resort of Pounda on the opposite eastern coast just
up from New Golden Beach. The two places are quite different.
Pounda beach has a very long sandy, windy beach with no
obstructions to impede your kiteboard tuition. As such the beach
has become an international kiteboarding location.
The Paroskite Kiteboarding centre was the first school in Greece
to gain recognition by the International Kiteboarding
Organisation (IKO) and the school strictly adheres to the IKO
teaching standards. The Centre also is the official PKRA
(Professional Kiteboard Riders Association) and KPWT (Kiteboard
Pro World Tour) beach in Greece and consequently receives visits
from very experienced kiteboarders from all over the globe.
Tuition from fully registered and insured IO instructors is
available for all levels, from beginners to advanced, and on
completion students are certified according to the level they
have reached with the IKO kite boarder card. To ensure absolute
safety and peace of mind, a jet ski and rib boat rescue service
is operated by the Centre for anyone who gets into difficulties.
As well as kiteboarding and windsurfing, Paroskite also offer
jet ski lessons.
