Callinus

One of the first known Greek lyric poets, who lived in the middle of the 7th century BC in Ephesus.

Callinus wrote patriotic poems where he encouraged his countrymen in the fight against the Cimmerians.

He also wrote the first known elegy, which was supposed to be recited at the tunes of a flute.

"It is honourable to fight for city and family,
death finds everyone"
